How to Manually Setup Connection to Netdoor

Netdoor provides this documentation as a support tool for customers choosing to manually setup their connection to Netdoor. Manually configuring your connection entitles you to limited technical support, such as the necessary host information needed and suggestions. In order to receive full technical support, we require that customers have a copy of our free Netdoor Advantage Pack CD.

The following pages contain image maps of what your Windows 98 configuration should look similar to when it is properly configured for use with Netdoor. You can click on each image as if you were looking at your own settings. In this way you can choose which settings you wish to examine.

Click here to see the standard configuration of Windows 98 Dial-up Networking for use with NETDOOR. To check or change these settings double click the My Computer icon, double click Dial-Up Networking, right mouse click on the Netdoor icon, and then select Properties.

Summary
Create the DialUp Networking connection.

  1. Double click My Computer
  2. Double click DialUp Networking
  3. Double click Make New Connection
  4. Enter Netdoor as the Name
  5. Click Next
  6. Enter the appropriate area code and access number
  7. Click Next
  8. Click Finish
  9. Right click on the Netdoor connectoid and select Properties
  10. Click on the Server Types tab
  11. Uncheck Logon to Network
  12. Uncheck Net BEUI
  13. Uncheck IPX/SPX Compatible
  14. Click the TCP/IP Settings box
  15. Select the option to Specify Name Server Addresses
  16. Primary DNS = 206.41.228.8
  17. Secondary DNS = 206.41.228.6
  18. Click OK
  19. Click OK
  20. Your dialup connection is now set

Make sure TCP/IP is installed.

  1. Make sure you have your Windows 98 CD with you. You may be prompted for it.
  2. Click Start, Settings, then Control Panel
  3. Double click Network
  4. The two network components necessary for your Netdoor connection are DialUp Adapter and TCP/IP. Remove any unnecessary network components. If you are uncertain about removing some of the network components, always ask first.
  5. Select TCP/IP and click Properties
  6. You will receive a warning message, click OK
  7. On the IP Address tab, you should have Obtain an IP Automatically selected
  8. Click on the WINS Configuration tab. You should have Disable WINS Resolution selected
  9. Click on the Gateway tab. There should be no gateways installed
  10. Click on the DNS Configuration tab. DNS should be disabled
  11. Click OK
  12. Click OK
  13. Click Yes if/when prompted to restart
